Cumberbatch Urges to Close Guantanamo

In an interview with the media, Benedict Cumberbatch requested US President Joe Biden to close the Guantanamo Bay prison.

The “Sherlock Holmes” star took part in a crash course as a producer and actor in "The Mauritanian".

In that time, he came to know about that prison in details

Directed by Kevin MacDonald, the film is based on the 2015 memoir Guantanamo Diary by Mohamed Olad Slehi. The Mauritanian man was detained by the US government for 14 years in a remote prison without trial. His Rahim has played the role of Slehi.

According to Cumberbatch, Guantanamo Bay is the most expensive prison in the world. Problem like violation of human rights. People have suffered a lot during imprisonment.

Previously in February, the Biden administration decided a proposal to close Guantanamo Bay.

The prison was established by the George W. Bush administration in 2002 during the War on Terror. Number of prisoners was significantly reduced during the Barack Obama administration.

However, in an executive order in 2016, Donald Trump announced that the prison would remain open indefinitely.
