River erosion: Sirajganj people cry for help

At least 250 establishments including houses and mosques have been devoured by river in Sirajagnj district because of the onrush of water of the Jamuna river. 

Affected people have been shifted to safer places in order to save their lives. Panic grips people living near the river-bank areas.

The affected people of Panch Thakuri area under Sadar Upazila have taken shelter on flood control embankment area and passing an inhuman life under the open sky amidst strong wind and rain, according to media reports.

River erosion has turned into severe condition in the area and it was on till filing the report on Sunday morning.

They alleged that no one had yet come to help them despite their sufferings.

Water development Board executive engineer Md Shafiul Islam said to media that they were dumping geo bags to protect the riverbank areas.

The water of the Jamuna river was flowing 89cm and 100cm above the danger levels at Sirajganj and Kazipur points respectively at about 3.00 pm on Sunday.
