A one-story building of a primary school and 50 homesteads were devoured due to erosion of the Padma River in Shariatpur on Wednesday.
The one-story building of Basakerch Government Primary School under Naria Upazila in Shariatpur went underwater of the Padma River at 2 pm today.
Besides, 50 homesteads of Basak Char of Charatra union were devoured in the area today.
In the last 12 days, the Padma River gobbled up 496 homesteads, four mosques and a madrasa, in Jajira and Naria Upazilas, locals said, according to BSS reports.
More then, 403 homesteads of Kunderchar, Barakandi and Naodoba unions of Jajira upazila and 45 homesteads of Charatra union of Naria Upazila went under the water of the Padma River so far.
Naria Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jayanti Rupa Roy said a one-storey building of Basakerchar Government Primary School was washed away due to erosion of the Padma River today, according to media reports.
