Another murder case has been filed against suspended Teknaf Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das.
Nur Nahar of Teknaf's Hoaikong area filed the case with the cognizance of Court-3 of Senior Judicial Magistrate Helal Uddin, said Julkarnine Zillu, lawyer of the plaintiff.
She filed the case against 13 people, including 11 police personnel and a dafadar of local union parishad in connection with the killing of her brother Mizanur Rahman, who was killed in what police said crossfire at Jhimongkhali under Teknaf Upazila.
Julkarnine Zillu said the victim Mizanur Rahman would run a mobile banking business to meet the expenses of his family. In the morning on April 5, a police team led by Teknaf's suspended OC Pradeep Kumar Das took away Mizan from his shop at the Teknaf Upazila Parishad Masjid Market.
Later, a police team went to Mizan's home and vandalized the house there. They demanded Tk 20 lakh extortion from his family. However, poor Mizan's family gave OC Pradeep Tk 2 lakh borrowing from different people.
When the family members expressed their inability to pay the rest of the amount, Mizan was shot dead in the crossfire at 11:45 pm, he said.
Later, the accused passed off the incident as a gunfight, said the lawyer.
Mizanur Rahman’s sister Nur Nahar demanded justice over the incident. She also demanded exemplary punishment of the culprits.
OC Pradeep Kumar Das was shown arrested in Army Major (Retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case on August 6 last. Since then he has been in jail. During this period, cases filed against him bringing allegations of killing 16 people in crossfire. A total of 13 murder cased were filed against Pradeep till Sunday (September 13). Besides, another case was filed for torturing a journalist.
