The government has approved the conditional stay of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s sentence for the next six months from September 25.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the sentence conditionally stayed for six months on the plea of Begum Khaleda Zia’s brother.
At the time, Khaleda Zia will be able to take treatment from Dhaka “but will not be able to go abroad, he added.
In the case of Khaleda Zia’s release for another 6 months, the previous conditions will remain unchanged, he added.
The Home Minister said Khaleda Zia’s brother had appealed for an extension of her release. Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the request. The law ministry had also recommended a six-month extension.
Begum Zia’s family has not been able to arrange any treatment for her for the last six months due to coronavirus.
