3 killed in Bogura and Sherpur ‘gunfight’

Three suspected criminals were killed in a reported gunfight at bagura and sherpur districts today.

The deceased were identified as Afzal Hossain, 55, son of Rajab Ali, of Natore’s Singra upazila, and Dhanesh Sarkar alias Sukumar Sarkar, 38, son of Mantu Sarkar, of Gaibandha Sadar upazila.

Confirming the news, police said, Afzal was wanted in 20 criminal cases while Dhanesh in 11 cases.

Sanatan Chakrabarty, additional superintendent of Bogura Police (media cell), said: "They sent a team to the spot around 1 am after knowing about the gunfight."

Additional superintendent of Sherpur Circle Gaziur Rahman and OC Humayun Kabir led the team. Police recovered a shutter gun, a pipe gun, and two bullets from the spot.

Police found Dhanesh and Afzal with gunshot wounds and took them to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

On the other hand, a young man was killed in an alleged gunfight with intelligence police in Dhopaghat area of ​​Charshrpur union of Sadar upazila. Four police, including ASI Ariful Haque of the District Intelligence Branch, were injured in the attack. They have been admitted to Sherpur District Hospital, according to a intelligence source.

The body was kept at District Hospital Morgue, district police said.
