Suspected robber killed in Lakshmipur 'gunfight'

A young man was killed in a gunfight between two robber gang at an abandoned brick kiln in Shakchar area of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.

The accident took place on Saturday (September 21) early morning. 

The deceased was identified as Arif Hossain (28), son of Amir Hossain of Shakchar village. Police initially thought that Arif was a member of a robbery gang. 
Two policemen - Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station SI Motahar Hossain and constable Sohail Rana - were injured in the incident. They are being treated at Sadar Hospital.

Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge AKM Azizur Rahman Mia said that a team of police rushed to the spot after hearing the sound of gunfire between two robber gang in Shakchar area of ​​the Upazila. 

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back for self-defense. 

After the gunfight, police rescued Arif, who suffered bullet wounds while others managed to flee the scene. Later, he was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead. His body was kept at Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. 

One LG and three rounds of bullets were also recovered from the scene.
