Buet students continue demonstrations for 6th day

Students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) continued their protests for the 6th consecutive day on Saturday demanding justice for Abrar Fahad.

Several hundred students of the university gathered in front of the Shaheed Minar of the university around12:00 pm with placards and chanted different slogans demanding capital punishment of Abrar’s killers.

On Friday afternoon, BUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Saiful Islam held a long discussion with the students and assured them to comply with the 10-point demand and called for the university to cease the movement.

But not the assurance, the students declared the movement to continue until the claim was implemented.

Expulsion of all the identified killers from the university for life within 72 hours, trial of the case under a tribunal, expulsion of the rangers who mentally and physically torture students for differences of opinions, bearing all the expenses of Abrar murder case by the Buet administration and compensation for Abrar’s family and banning party politics on the campus are among the demands.

Abrar, 21, a second-year student of the electrical and electronic engineering department of Buet, was beaten to death reportedly by BCL leaders at Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university.

He was found dead on the staircase of the dormitory early Monday.
