'PM directs to bring back trapped Bangladeshis in China'

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said in a Facebook post this morning. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the authorities concerned to bring back Bangladeshis from China who are willing to return as the Asian giant battles a new type of virus.

"Our main purpose is the safety of our citizens," State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam said.

The government will make the arrangement to bring back its citizens as per the directive, he said, adding: "We’ve started discussions with the Chinese government in this regard.” It will be decided through discussion with local administration in China and with their consent on how this will be done, he said.

A preliminary instruction will be issued later in the day over preparing a list of the Bangladeshi nationals willing to return from China

Earlier, some Bangladeshi students currently staying in Wuhan province in China have made a humanitarian appeal to the Bangladesh authorities to save them from the crisis created after the outbreak of Coronavirus that has already claimed over 82 lives.
