Coronavirus: Health ministry official tests positive

Several top government officials have been asked to go home quarantine after an official of Health Minister Zahid Malek’s office tested coronavirus positive on Thursday, ‍according to media reports.

Director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Thursday announced five new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours. The health ministry official was one of them.

After detecting corona case, the IEDCR officials contacted with the health ministry and health department officials and asked them to put some other officials on home quarantine.

The identities of the officials were not disclosed as IEDCR does ethically not disclose identity of any patient. “Ethically, we do not disclose the identity of any person,” said IEDCR director Prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora.

On the other hand, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Dr Rubana Huq has urged the owners to consider closure of their factories as the nation is fighting to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
