BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the ruling government has instigated Hefazat-e-Islam for the violence.
Fakhrul Islam said this while speaking at a press conference at the BNP chairperson's Gulshan office in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
It was not BNP but the government has instigated the violence. We have nothing to do with Hefazat-e-Islam, said Fakhrul Islam. The government has no responsibility to the people as they were not elected by the people.
Many government leaders, ministers and the media have publicized that the BNP has instigated Hefazat and supported their program. But we have nothing to do with Hefazat. Hefazat is not a political organization, he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said that the ruling government cadres and law enforcers had attacked Hefazat-e-Islam’s peaceful protest rally in protest against the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Bangladesh.
On the other hand, he also said that the government did not heed the recommendation of the health department not to hold any function but they deny it by celebrating Bangabandhu’s birth centenary and the golden jubilee of Independence.
