What type of hairstyle is allowed in Islam?

Men are not allowed to resemble women and vice versa.

The Prophet (S:) is reported to have said: “Allah curses men who imitate women and women who imitate men.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari hadith no 5546)

Such a resemblance will produces negative, harmful and dangerous consequences which destroys the human society.

Moreover, Muslims are not allowed to imitate disbelievers. The prophet (P) said:

من تشبه بقوم فهو منم

“Who imitates to a community will become one of them.” (Sonan Abu Davoo, vol 2, p 552)

Imam Sadiq (A) said: Allah (swt) says to one of His Messenger “tell the believers not to wear my enemies cloth, not to eat my enemies food and not to follow my enemies ways and style of livings otherwise you will count one of them.” ( Wasael As-Shia, vol 3, p 279; Elal As-Sharae, vol 2, p 348)

No, you can't do anything to your hair. The rules are fairly simple:

1 Men should not look like women
2 Women should not look like men
3 The style should not imitate kafir
4 It is best to imitate the prophet of Islam
